I received the assignment to assist Matt and his wife Lori with their relocation from the USA to Bonn in May 2022. Right at the start during the orientation tour we found a beautiful apartment in the heart of Bonn. We worked through the administrative steps one by one, such as registering at the citizens’ office, opening a bank account and applying for residence permit. All went very smoothly. Lori and Matt have settled in to their new environment and enjoy life tremendously in Bonn. It was great to meet up again and over a delicious meal, they recounted their doings over the past year. We laughed heartily as some of their experiences and some encounters took an extraordinary turn when using the so-called “false friends” in German conversations, much of the meaning got lost in translation.
