A new system to waiver mandatory visas was implemented in China on December 1, 2023.
Citizens from six different countries, including Germany, will be permitted to enter China without a visa for a period of up to 15 days for business, tourism and family reasons. This temporary regulation applies to on-time only entries and exits and is expected to remain valid for the entire year 2024, but can be revoked at any time by the Chinese government. How this exemption will function in detail is unclear and it is advisable to apply as usual for entry visas at the beginning of 2024.
