As a rule, the immigration authorities stipulate that spouses must participate in a German orientation/integration course with the aim to achieve the best possible integration through knowledge of the German language. This often proves to be difficult as childcare is often not immediately available, making participation impossible due to lack of nursery places. The performance level of the participants in the course differs greatly – from university graduates to those who have attended school for 4 or 5 years. In some areas, professionals are also obliged to attend integration courses. In my opinion, this is not the right approach to make Germany attractive as a destination for skilled workers. In addition to their full-time employment, recreation time and family time, employees must spend their evenings in language/orientation classes.
