For many skilled workers who come from abroad and come into contact with German culture for the first time, their new life is initially associated with a major culture shock. Everything is different – the people, the accommodation, the stores and opening hours and, of course, the weather. A feeling of dissatisfaction and frustration often arises in the first few days – this must be avoided. We recommend that employers include a small budget for cultural awareness training in the settling-in costs so that employees gain a better understanding of life in Germany.
