For those who have relocated to Germany are permitted in principle to drive with their licence obtained abroad. A classification and translation must be carried out by the ADAC and a distinction is made between European and non-European driving licences. European driving licences remain valid in Germany. Some licences from other countries can be converted without the need to do a test, while otthers must undertake theoretical or both theoretical and practical tests. We always check before entry to Germany what has to be done so that we can keep to the deadline. As a rule, foreign driving licences remain valid for only 6 months after arrival, whereby they must be then either converted or the tests must be taken.
